Akanksha Education Fund

The Mahalaxmi Mumbai School Fund

The Mahalaxmi Mumbai Public School was founded in 2012 and now serves 300+ students in Kindergarten through grade 7 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy area. It is one of Akanksha’s 21 schools and is primarily funded from donors in the US. But the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted the school’s operations, creating a tremendous strain on the students and their families. In response, Akanksha has expanded support for these students by:

  1. Switching to a virtual and blended learning approach, primarily through mobile phones (limited to 1-2 hours a day).
  2. Regular check-in calls with students to prioritize social and emotional well-being.
  3. Distributing humanitarian supplies and providing employment assistance.
  4. Emphasizing the role of parents as co-educators by offering training on in-home education.

However, the school now faces a budget shortfall and it’s unclear when all students can return to in-person learning. Our goal is to provide one tablet for each student so they can continue learning safely at home.

We encourage you to make a gift today. By supporting the Mahalaxmi Mumbai School, our students can continue receiving a high-quality education and end the poverty cycle in India.
