Akanksha Fund’s 2018 Gala: Educating Children, Empowering Communities

On May 10th, 2018, The Akanksha Fund hosted its third annual gala, Educating Children, Empowering Communities, which raised over $780,000 for Akanksha’s work in India.

In addition to changing the lives of 7,000 children through their network of schools, the Akanksha Foundation helps empower the communities in which their students live. This year, the night focused on this crucial work, including programs like the Building Bridges initiative, which helps children and parents develop emotional bonds, and support groups that focus on building self-confidence and leadership among women.

These programs were highlighted by featured speaker, Senior Director of Akanksha Schools in Pune, Jayshree Oberoi, who described their empowering impact on parents, families, and communities. Our keynote speakers and 6th grade Akanksha students, Tahura and Dhanashree, described what sets their school apart and how Akanksha helped them develop the confidence to be a leader. You can view their speech here and photos from the event here.

A special thank you to the Fund’s community of supporters, Gala Host Committee, speakers, and volunteers for making the night a resounding success.
